This is a memoir of the houses we have lived in during our marriage, from 1956 to the present day.
I am remembering them in chronological order, using the date we first moved in. Some of the houses also served as office space. Some of the houses were rentals, and some we owned. And some of the houses were weekend getaways. We think of all these as our houses. There are other places we spent time in, that were not our own houses, but were our Idyllic Havens, places we stayed with family and/or friends, and although we never lived in these places, our memories and stories would not be understandable if the reader did not have some context as to where we were and why we were there.
In addition to photographs, I am including any related paintings, sketches, and artifacts to help capture the experience of living in these houses. People mentioned in the text are referred to by the names we called them, such as “Grandma” or “Aunt Virginia” rather than their full formal names.
Some of you who are reading this, will remember the experience of living in or visiting one or more of these houses. For those who were not part of the experience, I hope you enjoy the adventures shared here.
